If you didn’t already know, this is a Chimamanda Adichie stan page. I mean, you probably guessed it, as Purple Hibiscus is our first book club read of the month, but it’s best to set the record straight as early as possible you know?
Scrolling through Chimamanda’s page is an education on both her work and her style, showcasing her eclectic fashion taste for prints, texture and colour. After launching her “Project Wear Nigeria” in 2017, where she decided to primarily wear clothing from Nigerian designers in her public appearances, it’s also become a platform to promote local designers to her growing global audience (see why we stan??). On today’s agenda, we’re taking a deep dive into the literary icon’s style and present you with 7 lewks as seen on her Instagram page.
#1: Wanger Ayu dress and Dot fashions bag

Chimamanda wears a custom blue Wanger Ayu dress to the 80th birthday and book launch of Dr Newton Jibunoh in Lagos. We’re drooling over the red, blue and yellow rope detailing strategically placed near the bottom half of the dress and the asymmetric sleeves! And as if this wasn’t already a lewk, Chimamanda lets her afro shine through with a side part that brings the whole outfit together beautifully.
#2: Emmy Kasbit suit

They say that in every power womxn’s wardrobe lies at least one perfectly tailored suit, and we’re sure many adorn Chimamanda’s wardrobe. And because we don’t actually have access to what she has in her wardrobe, Instagram will have to do, and this Emmy Kasbit suit immediately grabs our attention. Maybe it’s the fabric, maybe it’s the colour, maybe it’s both, all we know is that we’d like to order one as well.
#3: The Lady Maker top & Dior skirt

This outfit is a winner. At the 2020 Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer show, Chimamanda is every bit the style icon in this long-sleeved aso-oke Lady Maker top and netted Dior skirt. Here, Chimamanda shows her playful side, mixing different textures and finishes to give way to the perfect lewk.
#4: House of Farrah dress (worn as top)

For the perfect off-duty lewk in her ancestral hometown in Abba, Chimamanda opts for this House Of Farrah dress (worn here as a top) and pairs it with jeans, sunglasses and a red lip. This outfit screams, ” I may be out of office but the slay continues” and we’re quite frankly here for it
#5: Imad Eduso jumpsuit

I’m just going to say it: jumpsuits are hard a.f to pull off, and a lot of people seem a bit apprehensive of these one-piece fits. But if you need any convincing, look no further than this twinning moment where Chimamanda and Lupita both wear Imad Eduso jumpsuits.
#6: Amede trousers and top. Wuman bag.

In this clashing print number, Chimamanda ties it together with a purple and black colour palette. However, the real star of this outfit is her hair. If you haven’t already noticed by now, Chimamanda constantly switches up her hair to compliment her outfits. The hair of choice for this outfit is a braided side part with high twisted puffs that crown her head.
#7: Dior dress

There can be no list without this floor-length Dior dress by Maria Grazia Chiur. Chimamanda is award show-ready in this ethereal number and radiates in this a-line silhouette with neutral swirl patterns.
