12 Days Of ChristmasGeneral

Day 6: Things To Do in Lagos in December

So obviously, there’s still plenty of ways you can celebrate the season with just your close friends and family without having to go out, and I’m not saying you need to be out and about every day, but if you do decide to step out on the town (in a responsible, socially distanced kind of way), here are some events to look out for that are taking place in Lagos this holiday season:

FOMO Brunchout (December 20th)

If you’re not following FOMO Lagos on Instagram then you’re missing out. The page is dedicated to keeping you up to date on all the big events that you may not know about that are going on in the city. And this December 20th, they’re hosting the FOMO Brunchout, which is exactly what it sounds like- good drinks, good food, and even better company. The event will follow COVID guidelines, so make sure you mask up and you take in the impeccable atmosphere of The Patio (located in Lekki) and sample the Jameson Whiskey cocktails that are on offer.

Fuji: A Opera (14th-19th December)

FUJI: A Opera is a five day cultural event celebrating the rich history of Fuji music, and the subcultures that have been born from it. This is a multi-dimensional exhibition of Fuji culture that brings the style to a new generation through archival recordings, costumes and memorabilia. Basically, all the history you didn’t learn in school without any of the boring lectures. The perfect place to take your older relatives who routinely complains that today’s music just doesn’t hit like it used to (even though artists like Zlatan and Teni make use of Fuji sounds in their music), or an exciting alternative to your usual Lagos night out. Tickets are still available on Eventbrite (let them know FEMME MAG sent you).

StreetSouk (December 20th)

For the altés, the skate crews, the street style aficionados, Street Souk is back, baby! Nigeria’s first streetwear convention is the perfect place to take your friends with the ripped jeans and the baggy tees…taking place on December 20th at Harbour Point (V.I.), Street Souk will be home to plenty of streetwear vendors (RIP to your wallet, and mine…), good music, great vibes, and all kinds of skate tricks (it’s BYOB…Bring Your Own Board). Tickets are available on the Street Souk site, and yours truly will be in attendance, so hopefully, I’ll see you there!

Historical Fictions Exhibition (December 12th-January 5th)

For all the art heauxs, Pacers Gallery presents the duo exhibit, Historical Fictions, featuring the works of David Olatoye and Victor Ubah. The series focuses on intimate portraits that “embrace the universal themes of love and family”. Olatoye’s work draws from a difficult childhood, reconstructing the environment he grew up in into idealized settings, and his style mixes traditional acrylic with a ballpoint pen. Ubah is more focused on social infrastructures and is inspired by the cubist art movement. The exhibition will take place from December 12th to January 5th (so, plenty of time to check it out!), from 11am to 6pm at the Open Door Gallery, Lekki Phase One. I’m not saying you should take me but I am free, so…
