FEMME MAG Summer Reading List Ep 2. Ft. Mayowa Omogbenigun

Whether you’re in the mood to read on a beach or curl up indoors, there’s a book out there to match every mood. Problem is: which book to sink your teeth into? While we’d admit that these are good problems, selecting a book (or books. Why stop at one?), can feel like a herculean task. Is it going to be a gripping thriller or a steamy romance page-turner? We understand and we’re here for you.

To make your selection a bit easier, we’ve caught up with some members of our FEMME MAG community and asked them what they plan on reading this Summer and why. We’ll be reporting back with their responses throughout the Summer! From celebrity memoirs, to teen dramas, we’ve got a range of stuff coming your way.

Think of it as our little gift to you!  Next up in our series is Mayowa Omogbenigun (@mayowa_reads).

“The White Book” by Han Kang

The best thing about the warmth and joy of summer (whether it be as a season as experienced in the West or as a frame of mind as experienced in Nigeria) is the feeling that we deserve rest, relaxation and joyful experiences. For me, this has always meant reading. The past year and a half have been difficult for multiple reasons, and I am constantly needing to remind myself that there is joy, love and beauty. One book that reminds me of the beauty of literature and the world is Han Kang’s “The White Book”. It’s the perfect summer read. The book is a meditation on the colour white. Through exploring white things and our relationship with objects and experiences, Kang shares small snippets of life. The writing is lyrical, and haunting in some parts, and each story is short and intentional and allows you to dip in and out of the novel. Read this book while sipping on a G&T on a beach or even just on the sofa!
