We’re back with another #TSMW recap! Last week, our girl Zuri was dodging ex-boyfriends and landlords, being scolded by her friends and getting questioned by her mother about marriage prospects.
On this week’s episode…
This week’s episode is all about ‘realizing things’: Zuri realizes she wouldn’t be getting any financial help from her family, Adesuwa realizes her husband is not as he seems and I realize just how much money I spend on asoebi. Let’s dive in.
Zuri is still looking for money and reaches out to her brother Efosa, but all she gets are lectures, lectures, lectures. Seems like no help is coming from family at all. (Sorry, Zuri). In a bid to actually understand her finances, she finally sits down to calculate how she’s been spending money and discovers that N150,000 has only gone to asoebi in three months! I know, there’s owambe every week in Lagos, but why girl?!
While Zuri is figuring out how she keeps running out of money, we finally meet the infamous Soji, Adesuwa’s husband, when he returns to their house early in the morning after a night of “working”. When confronted, he tells Adesuwa that he spent the night driving from Ikorodu to Sangotedo to secure a deal. (Men = lies). He then proceeds to gaslight her for questioning his whereabouts and asking him about heart-eyes emoji girl (remember her from ep 2?) The conversation ends with Adesuwa in tears after Soji’s mum comes in to berate her for being disrespectful to her son. *Sigh.
Zuri shows some growth in this episode and I’m really proud to see her making some changes to take control of her finances. She refuses to buy asoebi again (unless its a close family member) and trades in her BMW for a smaller car. Glad to see some Smart Money Lessons being applied here. I’m rooting for my girl!
In the final scene of the episode, Zuri’s landlord is back again asking for his service charge. How she’s managed to make it this far without paying is a mystery to me. Thankfully she’s getting her shit together so she should be able to go one episode without hiding from her landlord. We can only hope.

The Smart Money Tip of the Week:
“Most people don’t know where the money they earn goes. What percentage of your income goes to food? Transportation? Clothes? Write down everything you’ve spent in the last month. Separate your findings into wants and needs. Limit your wants and prioritize your needs. If you don’t treat the money you earn with respect, it will leave you with no respect.”
This week’s tip is shouting at me. Write down everything I’ve spent in the last month? No way. I’m terrible at sticking to lists even though I write them at the beginning of every month. And now that the daily mantra is “try dey enjoy, problem no dey finish”, I always find opportunities to “spoil” myself after a long day of surviving Lagos. As I mentioned last week, my next house rent is my only constant priority. The rest of it is free for all. But judging by Zuri’s current situation, that’s probably not the best approach to being financially stable so I guess it’s time to sit down, create those priorities’ lists and actually stick to them.
